Things that make me go Hmmm...

Current Mood: Deliriously happy. It's snowing!!!! (I'm from Chicago, people)
Currently Working On: The Nightingale Series, Book 1: Unlaced.

My dearest Readers,

I have to say that I couldn't even begin to list all the things that make me go Hmm.... Because I come across Hmmm... moments every single day. Almost every single hour. It's a curse. And I think it has something to do with me being a writer. I see a story behind everything and want an explanation for EVERYTHING. So when it makes me go Hmmm...either good or bad, I find myself needing to write. But I will try to pull together a list of my 5 most recent Hmmmms.

1.)Why do some people get that "look" when I tell them I write historical romance? Meaning the "oh...you-write-THAT" look. I want to whip out a copy of my book and start reading all the sex scenes OUT LOUD just to smack the look off their face.

2.)Why do all the schools close here in Oregon when it snows, even when it's just a measly inch? I'm from Chicago people. I remember walking to school when snow was up to my chest and guess what? School was STILL open. Of course people in Oregon don't know how to drive in the rain, either...

3.)Whatever happened to a kid asking for ONE thing from Santa? Sheesh. My kids asked for at least 25 things EACH from Santa this year. Commercialism sucks and Santa is going to have to explain to the kids that there was an elf strike.

4.)Why do I get my best ideas for writing when there's no time to write? I love snow but...

5.)Why do people allow their 11 year old daughters to get their noses pierced? Seriously. My daughter's best friend JUST had it done and well....I don't get it. At all. It's like letting a kid get a tattoo. On their nose.

Fortunately for you, I only limited myself to 5 Hmmms. And sadly, it appears they are more like rants than anything else...

Until next Time. Cheers and much love,

Delilah Marvelle

Hey, Delilah! How great that you're working on a new series. I need to finish editing my novella, then I can start working on my nine-book series again.

In the meantime, I'm moving my office so work on house projects can continue.

Had to smile at your comment about driving in the snow and rain. I came through Los Angeles on a weekend a few years ago when it was raining. Every car but me was in the left lanes going about 20 miles an hour. I moved into the right lane and just drove past them all. Granted, it was raining hard, so I guess it was better they were driving at a speed they were comfortable with.

We're getting freezing rain in my part of Salem right now, so I'm just staying close to home!

I really agree with you on the piercings--nose or otherwise when they are that young. Same with tattoos. I think it has to do with who is in charge in the household. In the case of your daughter's friend, it is clear the parents are not in charge. But then, maybe the mother has a pierced nose and the daughter is just emulating her?

I moved back to Oregon from Ohio where we also got lots of snow. However, the difference is what is normal. In Ohio they had snow every year and they budgeted for it both in terms of street maintenance and in school plans. I suspect, however, that your comment has more to do with kids underfoot than snow removal.

Keep at it, Delilah. You'll make it to deadline and it will be amazing!

Hi Genene!!! Good luck finishing your novella so you can start working on that NINE BOOK SERIES. Yowsa! And I thought I was gonna be busy!!! And LOL about people driving. Stay warm!!!
Hi Maggie!
I think you nailed it. Her mom has her nose pierced so she thinks it's okay to let her daughter go down the same path. At 11 I don't think they really know what the freak they're doing... As for Oregon, I think that's the problem. There's no budgeting for this stuff. But they're gonna have to start budgeting if we get snow like this every year. Thanks for the cheerleading, as always, Maggie!! You rock!

My major hmmm... about kids is why don't they stay kids longer? My kids wanted to grow up so fast. I'm okay with the growing up, but at the right age. And then you ask...what is the right age? Not eleven :)

Okay, this was a rant :D
